What Can I Expect from My Session?

Hey there! I am excited you want to know what it is like to work with me, so here is the summary of what you can expect:
Sessions with me are 50 minutes. This allows 10 minutes between sessions to fill up a water bottle, wrap up session notes, and review the upcoming client session notes. In the first twenty minutes or so of every first session, I will introduce myself and complete a client intake form to learn important information about you to inform our work together. From there, we will discuss presenting problems and make some top priority session goals. Each session I try to give my folks a piece of homework to work on, a take-away tool, or a thought to mull over for the next session. We measure progress by symptom tracking, changes in behavioral outcomes, and quality of life satisfaction. I am open to meeting with couples or families involved in my client's larger system if the client wishes to include them in the session as a part of their support planning. However, I am not a marriage/family therapist and those sessions will not be run as such. I do safety planning, case management, and correspond with broader medical teams when it would be beneficial to your care. I do not diagnose clients, however, do support clients seeking diagnosis, as well as make referrals to agencies that you may benefit from such as The FASD Network, The Autism Resource Centre, Cosmo Learning Centre, and so on.

My Philosophy:
My philosophy on client care is that YOU are the expert on yourself. You know you best, so you are in the driver's seat of all sessions together deciding what we focus on, how far we go, and how we do that. I have many tools which can inform the work - you are deciding which tools feel right for you. As I tell all my clients - if we are on a ship, I am the one with a map giving direction, but you are the one at the wheel actually charting the course. You can show up however you want in session together. If you are in a great mood that day, great. If you are completely dysregulated, we can also work in that space. Come as you are, you are always welcome as you are in session with me.
